Philips Arena was home to NHL team Atlanta Thrashers from 1999 until 2011 when the team moved to Winnipeg. And for NBA, the arena is home to Atlanta Hawks, and Women NBA team Atlanta Dream. The group of investors that owns the arena is the same group of owners of the Hawks.
The layout of Philips arena is a bit special and unusual. The luxury boxes and club seats are aligned along one side, while admission seating aligns other 3 sides. The Amsterdam based Royal Philips Electronics has bought the rights to arena upon building. For concerts, Philips Arena comes in first positions among the busiest arenas worldwide.
The first time that Philips Arena hosted a playoff game was in 2005 when Georgia Force won their first playoff game. And the first NHL playoff was hosted in the arena two years later. And a year later in 2008, the arena hosted the first NBA playoff game. The finals of Division II and Division III were held at the arena as part of celebrations of mens basketball tournament in its 75th anniversary.
